HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

CPR – Updated annually

This CPR training course covers the management of CPR for infants, children and adults.

This also includes use of AED Training (Automatic External Defibrillator ) for infants, children and adults.

Online theory included in enrolment *

Duration:

- HLTAID009 CPR (Standard) - face to face learning is 2 hrs, online learning up to 1 hrs

- HLTAID009 CPR (Express) - face to face learning is 30 min, online learning up to 1 hrs

CPR Training Course Info

Participants will gain the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

This course applies to all persons who may wish to gain the training or be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations including workplace, community, and personal settings until the arrival of medics or other assistance.

The nationally recognised CPR Course incorporates the unit HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid

First Aid component -Updated every 3 Years

This course is suitable for those who require/need a First Aid Qualification for work or further study, this is the general first aid course people require.

This First Aid training course covers the management of CPR for infants, children and adults.

This also includes use of AED Training (Automatic External Defibrillator ) for infants, children and adults.. Management for Choking , Asthma and Anaphylaxis. A variety of Bandaging techniques in different first aid scenarios and much more.

First Aid Training Course Info

This also includes use of AED Training (Automatic External Defibrillator ) for infants, children and adults. Specific Management for Choking , Asthma and Anaphylaxis in the Education or Care setting. A variety of Bandaging techniques in different first aid scenarios and much more.

The Electrical safety office requires these nationally recognised units – UETDRRF004 Perform rescue from a live LV panel and HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The Electrical Safety Act states in relation to Rescue and Resuscitation training: A person conducting a business or undertaking must ensure workers who are required to perform, or help in performing, electrical work are competent in rescue and resuscitation in accordance with recognised practices in the electricity industry. UETDRMP018 Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel & HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

LVR & CPR – Updated annually

This course is suitable for Queensland Electricians to meet licensing requirements for CPR and Live Switchboard Rescue.

This LVR course is for those Electrical workers, spotters and trade assistants that may work on or around energised circuits. Low Voltage Switchboard Rescue and CPR will teach you how to commence a Live rescue and resuscitate an electrical worker.

(UETDRRF004 – Perform Rescue from a live LV Panel , can be a separated and can be completed by itself as induvial qualification – please enquire if need this issued)

HLTAID015 - Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen therapy

UPDATED ANNUALLY

This course is for those people in industries that work in high-risk environments, those that may be involved in Lifeguard /Aquatic or Fire industries , as well as Border Security .

Participants will learn and gain the skills and knowledge to effectively manage and operate oxygen resuscitation equipment in conjunction with a defibrillator. Participants will also learn how to manage a casualty with life threatening bleeding and practice these skills by applying tourniquets and wound packing dressings using simulation trauma equipment.

(Note: HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Certificate is a prerequisite for this qualification)

Lifeguard & CPR – Updated annually

This Lifeguard skill set course covers the knowledge and management supervise the safety of participants in aquatic recreation facilities and manage water-based rescues and emergencies. The primary role of a Pool Lifeguard at an aquatic location is to supervise patrons within the aquatic environment and to assist in preventing drowning of CPR for infants, children and adults.
This also includes use of CPR and AED Training (Automatic External Defibrillator ) for infants, children and adults..

- SISSS00133 Pool Lifeguard Skillset - this states the duration is both a day and 2 hours

This Lifeguard skill set course applies to individuals who may be required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

The nationally recognised Lifeguard skill set Course incorporates the units

HLTAID009 CPR*  SISCAQU019 Supervise patron safety in aquatic locations *

SISCAQU020 Perform water rescues*

SISCAQU021 Perform complex water rescues *

This Lifeguard course set has a pre-requisites of:

  • Student must be 16 years and over
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

 

Physical capability to be able to do practical demonstration skills including:

  • CPR*
  • Swim 25 metres and perform a 25 metre non-contact tow of a casualty. Working as a team, extract a casualty from deep water using extraction equipment and demonstrate advanced resuscitation techniques
  • Swim 10 metres and then complete a minimum 10 metre contact tow of a conscious casualty and remove the casualty from the water without assistance.
  • Swim 25 metres and then retrieve an object replicating a person at the deepest part of the pool at the aquatic facility (but no greater than two (2) metres) and perform a 25-metre contact tow of an unconscious casualty. Work as a team to extract the casualty with suspected spinal injury using spinal immobilisation extraction equipment from shallow water
  • Visual acuity to see the common visual signs and signals of a person experiencing difficulties in the water which includes “lack of movement” and ”arm waving”
  • Know the common visual signs and signals of a person experiencing difficulties in the water which includes “calling for help”

 

Please note, if you plan to work as a Pool Lifeguard, the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations note there are minimum age, health and fitness requirements of persons employed to be performing the role of a Pool Lifeguard. The Guidelines for Safe Pool Operation (GSPO) SV11 Pool Lifeguard Health Assessments outlines the criteria regarding vision, hearing, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, pregnancy and immunizations. SV12 Pool Lifeguard Fitness Assessments outlines the criteria to ensure lifeguards are physically fit enough to perform the required tasks and to provide a measure of safety should an emergency occur that requires physical ability.

Issue of Certificates Information

In most cases a Statement of Attainment in the form of an A4 electronic pdf will be emailed within 24-48hrs of practical training date, and based on the following:

  • Successful completion of the required assessments
  • Verification of a valid USI
  • Course fees are paid in full

Where your training falls outside of normal business hours your Statement of Attainment will be emailed the next business day.

Physical Requirements

  • Perform 2 minutes of CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor
  • Perform 2 minutes of CPR on an infant manikin placed on the floor
  • Place a patient into the recovery position
  • Demonstrate use of management of Choking , Asthma & Anaphylaxis (First Aid)
  • Demonstrate a variety of Bandaging assessments (First Aid)
  • Demonstrate a variety of Bandaging of envenomation PIT Bandage (First Aid)

 

Participants LLN skills These skills/tasks are:

  • Basic reading and writing skills in English
  • Ability to listen and understand verbal communication in English
  • Ability to count to 30, calculate basic ratios, use a timer and tell the time
  • Read and answer multiple choice questions in English
  • Fill in an accurate incident report form
